Seagoing trials on H.M.S. Iron Duke Type 23 frigate

Naval trials of Oxley e-tag are progressing well on the frigate H.M.S. Iron Duke. The trials are being managed by Babcock Defence Systems Ltd (BDSL) as part of a UK MoD study into Through-life Requirements for Integrated Logistics Support (TRILS).

BDSL have integrated e-tag into their DRACAS (Defect Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System) software used with laptop computers on-board the ship for ILS asset management. The objectives of the trial are to prove the effectiveness of equipment data capture using e-tag/DRACAS and also to prove the robustness of the e-tags themselves.

On completion of an initial trial the data gathered was very satisfactory and the e-tag showed no
detrimental effects from exposure to the salt-laden environment. An e-tag fitted to the anchor winch was
mistaken for a grease nipple but survived nevertheless.
