BOWMAN
uses Oxley Systems e-tag technology
Oxley
Systems have been selected by General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd
to supply miniature 'shirt button' sized electronic tags (e-tags)
for the British Army's new BOWMAN radio communication system.
Following the world trend for electronic tagging of goods, equipment
and people this will be the first major UK military equipment programme
to have electronic tags integrated into the equipment during manufacture.
The main function of the electronic tags will be to improve the
management and support of the radio systems throughout the world
during it 30 year operating life.
Able to retain up to 100 pages of A4 text, on the equipments service
history, the electronic tags, which require no battery, will be
fitted to every items of the radio systems that require servicing.
Over 250,000 e-tags together with a large number of tag readers
will be supplied to General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd and their
major sub-contractors over the next 3 years with system support
covering a period of up-to 10 years.
Oxley e-tags integrate, via hand-held computers, like the Palm,
into British Army's computer systems, and improve the management
equipment. The system will be one of the most advanced in the world.

during the life of the BOWMAN equipment" he continued, "in

applications within the General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd's business."
